FROM THE ARCHIVES: Episode #10 of Seat Time!
Since we have yet to do anything in our lives consecutively ten times, we figured making it to ten consecutive episodes of Seat Time should be treated as a celebration. We teamed up with the guys at SMS Racing, Brian Storrie, Haydn Frankin and Josh Woessner, to get a bit of a different perspective, some different opinions and just have an all around good time. Once the B-Roll from the night makes it to the light of day, you will all get to see how interesting it got.
We were given a fair amount of race coverage to talk about. The 2011 Can-Am GNCC season opener was on Tuesday of Daytona Bike Week in River Ranch, FL. Mike Brown had a commanding lead for most of the race. With Mullins passing him in a mud hole on the 2nd to last lap, he just barely gave it up to the younger KTM gun. Brown tried to quickly catch Mullins, but there would not be enough time or steam left. Chris Bach as well had a great showing at Round 1 where he took third. For the XC2 guys it was Stewart Baylor, Jason Thomas, and Jesse Robinson.
Moving on to Thursday of Daytona Bike Week brings us to the Alligator Enduro. There were many people looking to the orange bike of David Knight to see how he would fair on the drier, sandier course than with what's in England. After some fuel problems at the gas stop, David Knight would earn a DNF. The guys that took advantage and finished on the Podium were Mike Lafferty, Russell Bobbitt, and Nick Fahringer.
For the GNCC guys and a few of the Enduro riders, it was a quick drive north from Florida to Washington, GA. This was the location for Round 2 of the 2011 Can-Am GNCC Series, the Maxxis General. The line up of winners for the XC1 class was a bit different this time, seeing more expected names up top. Paul Whibley with the win, Josh Strang in second and a great performance by Thad DuVall for third. The XC2 class saw Jesse Robinson taking first, Stewart Baylor in second and Jason Thomas in third. Look for Thomas to be taking the top step soon.
The Supercross action from Indianapolis is starting to mold a winner out of Ryan Villipotto. He showed all the naysayers that it doesn't take a James Stewart crash for him to win. The Ginger Ninja rode away with the win, Stewart with second and Reed came through in third. Dungey again, fourth… The Lites main was really good. Sipes pressured all the right people for the win; the guy can ride. Wilson was busy taking himself out though to be much competition for the front runners.
Coming up we have quite a few races. Locally we have Round 2 of the TCCRA series is in BOYD, TX and Round 3 of the TORCS series at the Ott Ranch-String Prairie. On the National level, we have Round 4 of the National Hare & Hound is in Melba, Idaho, Round 2 of the National Enduro Series in Forest Hill, LA and the Supercross moves onto Jacksonville, FL. All good races and all different types of terrain. Should be a fun weekend to watch.
Jason and I are leaving on Wednesday for Winter Park, Colorado. We will do our best to keep you educated. Have fun, be safe and enjoy a Pint Full of Awesome!
